The challenge
Health systems are hiring analysts and gating the training behind employment
Epic runs much of American healthcare, the analyst roles around it are numerous and well paid, and the usual way in is to already be inside a hospital that will sponsor you.
The vocabulary is the barrier
Interviews are conducted in the language of modules, build, interfaces and go-live. Capable technologists get screened out for not speaking it.
Clinical and revenue cycle are different worlds
A candidate who can discuss orders and documentation but not claims, charges and denials has only seen half of what the role covers.
Nobody explains how the data gets out
Interfaces, interoperability and reporting are where day-to-day analyst work actually happens, and they are the least taught part of the subject.

Is this programme for you?
This is for you if
- You want into healthcare IT and have no hospital to sponsor your training.
- You work in IT, data or support and want the clinical and revenue cycle context around it.
- You are clinical or revenue cycle staff moving toward the systems side.
- You will do the written work. Analyst interviews are scenario interviews.
This is not for you if
- You are expecting Epic certification. Epic certifies only through an employer or customer organisation that has purchased training, and no third party can grant it. This programme builds the capability and the vocabulary; it is not Epic training and not a route to an Epic credential.
- You are expecting hands-on time in Epic itself. The software is licensed to health systems and cannot be provided, simulated or redistributed by anyone else. Every exercise here is built on the open standards and the decisions, which is the part that transfers.
- You want a certificate for a CV line without doing the written work.
- You need an accredited or regulator-recognised qualification. This is a Fourth Tech certificate, not an accredited award, and we say so rather than implying otherwise.

- Describe Epic's platform architecture and how clinical, revenue cycle and ancillary modules relate
- Apply HIPAA's Privacy and Security Rules to a system decision rather than quoting them
- Trace a clinical order through documentation, results and the record
- Follow a charge through claim submission to denial and identify where it failed
- Explain how records are exchanged between organisations and what governs the exchange
- Read a reporting requirement and say which data would answer it
- Plan an implementation or upgrade: phases, cutover, testing and the support model
- Hold an analyst interview in the language the role is conducted in
What you need
- No prior experience in the field. The programme starts from the vocabulary.
- A computer with a modern browser. The labs run in the browser, so no virtual machine and no particular operating system.
- Time for the written assignments. They are marked against a rubric, and skipping them removes the only thing that distinguishes you afterwards.
- No clinical background and no healthcare experience. Phase 1 starts from who HIPAA regulates.
- No access to Epic, and none is needed. Nothing here depends on the software being in front of you.
