What you will be able to do
- You will be able to define the single message a chart must deliver before choosing its form, so every visual answers a real question.
- You will be able to match the right chart to your data and message across the comparison, composition, distribution, relationship, and trend families, and know when a plain table is the better choice.
- You will be able to declutter a busy chart using data-ink and preattentive attributes so a reader grasps the point in seconds.
- You will be able to detect and correct misleading visualizations such as truncated axes, dual axes, distorted areas, and cherry-picked time ranges.
- You will be able to design and build an interactive dashboard in Tableau or Power BI with a clear layout, working filters, and a sensible visual hierarchy.
- You will be able to structure a data story around one big idea and an explicit so what that carries a stakeholder from context to recommendation.
- You will be able to tailor a data presentation to executive and operational audiences and defend your findings when they are questioned.
What is inside
4 modules, 8 lessons. Each module ends in a graded quiz and most carry an assignment.
- 01
Communicating With Data
Every good visual starts with a question and a single message, not a chart type. This module builds the habit of deciding what you need to say before you decide how to show it, then matching that message to the chart that carries it best. You will learn how visual perception shapes what a reader notices and how to choose among the core chart families with intent.

Designing Clear, Honest Charts
A chart can be technically correct and still fail, either because the reader cannot find the point or because the design quietly misleads them. This module covers the craft of clarity (decluttering to raise the data-ink ratio, using color with intent, and directing the eye with emphasis and annotation) alongside the ethics of showing data faithfully. You will practice turning a cluttered chart into a focused one and learn to catch the axis, encoding, and framing tricks that make honest numbers lie.

Building Dashboards in Tableau and Power BI
Dashboards fail when they become a wall of charts with no hierarchy or purpose. This module teaches dashboard design as a discipline, matching layout, hierarchy, and interactivity to how your audience will actually use the view, then putting it into practice in the two tools most analysts meet on the job. You will learn principles that transfer across any BI tool while building real, interactive dashboards in Tableau and Power BI: filters, drill-down, and sharing included.

Telling the Story and Delivering It
Charts and dashboards are raw material; a decision needs a narrative. This module shows how to build a data story around one Big Idea and a clear so what, sequence it for the room, tailor it to executives or operators, and stand behind your findings when stakeholders push back.
